Analysis of the origin and development of the channel system and meridian-collateral theory in the Yellow Emperor's Canon of Medicine(黄帝内经)

Abstract
Since the emergence of the Yellow Emperor's Canon of Medicine(黄帝内经),scholars throughout history have produced numerous academic works and papers on the channel system and meridian-collateral theory.Consequently,as a foundational classic of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),it serves as a guiding beacon for subsequent clinical practice.However,the Yellow Emperor's Canon of Medicine was not compiled by a single author or within a short period,resulting in inconsistencies in the origin and transmission of the channel system and meridian-collateral theory.With the deepening internationalization of TCM,this foundational complexity has led some scholars confused about the concepts of the channel system and meridians and collaterals.Some even equate the two.This issue is also reflected in international translations,further leading to confusion among overseas learners regarding the theoretical system.To address this,this article analyzes and traces the origins and development of the channel system and meridian-collateral theory by examin-ing pre-Qin and Han dynasties excavated texts alongside the Yellow Emperor's Canon of Medicine itself.It further distinguishes the char-acteristics of each and clarifies their interrelationship.The aim is thus to provide new references for researchers conducting in-depth stud-ies and to offer additional theoretical foundations and frameworks for the inheritance,innovation,and internationalization of TCM.关键词
