Abstract

Aiming at the explosion problem of IG541 fire extinguishing gas cylinder(composed of 52%N₂,40%Ar,and 8%CO₂),the causes of failure were carried out by means of macroscopic inspection,chemical composition analysis,mechanical property analysis,metallographic analysis,fracture morphology analysis,corrosion product analysis and determination of water content in the gas inside the cylinder.The results show that both the material composition and mechanical properties of the gas cylinders comply with the provisions of standard GB/T 18248-2008.However,the water content in the filled fire extinguishing gas reaches 80×10⁻⁴%,which is 16 times the upper limit stipulated by the standard GB 20128-2006.This causes the inner wall of the upper middle part of the gas cylinder in a humid CO2 environment for a long time,leading to stress corrosion cracking(SCC)and eventually resulting in an explosion.Through explosion cause analysis the fire extinguishing gas cylinder,this can provide a reference for the filling and inspection of gas cylinders containing CO2 and other gases with corrosion risks.
