Medication regularity of food and medicine homologous substances in TCM for treating common cold via data mining

Abstract
Objective To explore the medication regularity of food and medicine homologous substances in TCM for treating common cold based on the Ancient and Modern Medical Records Cloud Platform.Methods TCM formulas for common cold from the outpatient department of Panyu Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Guangzhou in 2023 were collected.The Ancient and Modern Medical Records Cloud Platform(V2.3.9)was employed to analyze the included formulas for basic information statistics,TCM pattern analysis,medication frequency analysis,efficacy analysis,analysis of property,flavor,and meridian affinity,cluster analysis,and complex network analysis.Results A total of 4,712 formulas involving 307 Chinese medicines were included.Among the age distribution of patients,the 0-9-year-old group accounted for the largest proportion,reaching as high as 44.46%.The main TCM patterns were wind heat invading the exterior pattern,wind heat attacking the lung pattern,wind cold binding the exterior pattern,and pathogenic wind invasion pattern.The most frequently used Chinese medicines included Gancao(Glycyrrhizae Radix Et Rhizoma),Jiegeng(Platycodonis Radix),Kuxingren(Armeniacae Semen Amarum),Fuling(Poria),and Bohe(Menthae Haplocalycis Herba).Their properties were mainly warm,cold,and neutral,and their flavors were predominantly pungent,bitter,and sweet.In terms of meridian affinity,they mainly act on the lung and stomach meridians.The main effects of the included Chinese medicines were clearing heat and removing toxins,and removing wind and clearing heat.Among the top 20 most frequently used Chinese medicines,11 were classified as food and medicine homologous substances,accounting for 55.00%.Five groups of Chinese medicines combinations were obtained via cluster analysis.Jingfang Baidu Powder,Xiaochaihu Decoction,Yinqiao Powder,and Jiegeng Decoction were the basic formulas for TCM treatment of common cold in Panyu Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Guangzhou.Complex network analysis revealed that the core drug network consisted of 29 Chinese medicines,among which 13 were food and medicine homologous substances,accounting for approximately 44.83%.The main treatment methods for this disease were releasing exterior and eliminating pathogens,clearing heat and removing toxins,transforming phlegm and relieving cough,and dispelling wind and opening the orifices.Conclusion The high-frequency use of food and medicine homologous substances and their core position in the complex network analysis jointly confirm their important role in treating common cold.This also provides theoretical support for the public to prevent and treat common cold with food and medicine homologous substances.关键词
