Abstract

The mechanical properties of shale matrix minerals are critical to wellbore stability and the propagation pattern of hydraulic fractures.In this study,grid indentation was performed on the continental shale from the Chang 7 Member of the Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin.After optimizing the data via deconvolution technology,the elastic modulus and hardness of organic matter,clay minerals,and quartz were measured.Based on the energy analysis method,the fracture toughness of matrix minerals at the nanoscale was estimated.The Mori-Tanaka model was employed as a mechanical parameter model for scaling from the nanoscale to the centimeter scale,with pyrite taken into account in the model calculations.This approach allows for the prediction of a more accurate equivalent elastic modulus,thus providing a reference for characterizing the mechanical parameters of the Yanchang Formation reservoir in the Ordos Basin.
