Abstract

To investigate the feasibility of substituting the triple point of water with the gallium melting point as the resistance ratio reference point for the International Temperature Scale of 1990(ITS-90),the interpolation equations and reference functions defined by ITS-90 were preserved unchanged.Calibration data were obtained from 37 standard platinum resistance thermometers for the temperature range of 273.16 K to 933.473 K and from 27 thermometers for the range of 83.808 3 K to 273.16 K.A novel interpolation equation was developed using the gallium melting point as the reference point and subsequently compared with the original ITS-90 equation based on the triple point of water.Results revealed that in 273.16~933.473 K,the deviation from the original equation after substitution was merely 11 μK,while in 83.808 3~273.16 K,the deviation did not exceed 0.5 mK.Uncertainty propagation analysis indicated that deviations of both equations were within 0.4 mK.The approach provides a novel perspective and enhanced feasibility for the application of the ITS-90.
