Generative Logic of Contemporary Youth's Family Kinship Relations

Abstract
Family kinship,which bears both biological attributes and social characteristics,serves as a fundamental form of social structure.In contemporary Chinese society,family kinship is undergoing a dual transformation of"alienation from peripheral relatives"and"cohesion within nuclear families",a shift particularly pronounced among young people.From the perspective of Neo-Familism theory,this transformation reflects a parallel development between individuals and families.By means of alienation and cohesion,young people have reshaped family functions,demonstrating the resilience of Chinese families amid the process of individualization.Driven by population mobility,individual orientation,and media technologies,the kinship practices of contemporary youth exhibit characteristics such as enhanced subjective selectivity,reduced frequency of interaction and emotional connection with peripheral relatives,and enhanced intergenerational cooperation within their original families.Young people's family values remain in a constant state of flux.In the future,young people will continue to make choices regarding kinship relations,likely forming a new pattern of differential mode of association.The tension between the individual and the family in their kinship practices will persist,yet the two are not contradictory or opposed.Therefore,building harmonious family kinship should both respect individual choices of young people and take family resilience into account.On this basis,efforts should be made to strengthen the promotion of positive family culture,parenting,and family traditions to foster the development of harmonious family relationships.关键词
