Blue Poetics:Byron's Marine Writing
摘要
Abstract
Byron's marine writing encompasses three perspectives:immersing in the sea,depicting it underwater to showcase the intimacy and conquest;navigating the sea,writing from a ship to repeatedly present the personal and uni-versal theme of"departure-wandering-homecoming(death)";an imagined cosmic perspective.The sea manifests in two forms:static state,often associated with romantic love,contrasting turmoil,foreshadowing danger,and symbolizing the stagnation and decay of time;and dynamics,which aligns with Byron's rebellious spirit and solitary pride,serving as his life's emblem and spiritual symbol while expanding the speed and space in his works.The rhetorical paradigms of sea include personification,where Byron endows the sea with human emotions,actions,and bodily organs,vividly por-traying its characteristics while subtly revealing human emotions;metaphor,where the sea frequently describes people's(especially women's)psychological states,emotions,appearances,and indicates natural and social phenomena;analogy,where the sea serves as a vehicle of metaphor to reveal subject traits,express emotions,and discuss and reason.These three rhetorical paradigms form specific expressions,reflecting Byron's exceptional rhetorical pursuit and profound panthe-istic thought.His marine poetics enriches the artistic treasury of global marine literature.关键词
