Abstract

River-type reservoirs exhibit dual characteristics of both rivers and lakes,featuring unique hy-drodynamic conditions and thermal stratification structures,which serve as the primary driving forces be-hind the long-term evolution of their aquatic ecosystems.To clarify the water temperature variation char-acteristics in the tributary bays of river-type reservoirs under complex conditions,a numerical model for water temperature in the Xiangxi River tributary bay of the Three Gorges Reservoir was developed.The model was thoroughly validated based on reservoir capacity,water level,and vertical water temperature data.Furthermore,multi-scenario simulations were conducted to investigate the mechanisms of wind speed,air temperature,inflow rate,and inflow water temperature under varying meteorological and hydrological conditions.The results indicate that wind speed and air temperature are two critical factors influencing the mixing degree of the entire water body.An increase in wind speed and a decrease in air temperature both can enhance water mixing.Specifically,an increase of 50%in wind speed reduces the peak water stability coefficient by 46.2%,while an increase of 10%in air temperature increases water stratification intensity by 10.3%.In addition,upstream inflow rate and water temperature are significant factors driving hydrodynamic changes in the mixing process of the middle and upper reaches of the tribu-tary bay,particularly in shallow water layers.As for the monitoring point XX09 near the Zhaojun Town,the entire cross-section was stratified under initial conditions;however,an increase of 20%in inflow rate can improve the mixing degree by 50%;a decrease of 20%in inflow water temperature can help achieve complete mixing at a water depth of 5 meters.
