Effect of smart wearable devices combined with exercise management on T2DM patients:a systematic review with meta-analysis

摘要

Abstract

Objective:To evaluate effect of smart wearable devices combined with exercise management on health status of patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus(T2DM).Methods:The literatures of randomized controlled trials(RCTs)about effect of smart wearable devices combined with exercise management on T2DM patients were searched from databases including China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),VIP,Wanfang,PubMed,Embase,and Web of Science(WOS)from inception to March 1,2025.About the intervention measure of these literatures,the observation group adopted smart wearable devices combined with exercise management,and the control group adopted routine exercise management.A total of 570 retrieved relevant articles were screened according to inclusion and exclusion criteria,and then,the quality of these literatures was evaluated.Meta-analysis was performed on the primary outcome indicators,including glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c)and body mass index(BMI),of patients by using Review Manager 5.2 and R 4.4.3 software.Subgroup analyses about the effect of different intervention durations on HbA1c and BMI,and different regions on HbA1c,were conducted on the literatures with heterogeneity among different studies.Results:A total of 13 literatures were ultimately included,which were 7 domestic literatures in Chinese and 6 foreign literatures in English,and these literatures involved a total of 1,633 T2DM patients(804 cases in observation group and 729 in control group).The intervention measure with smart wearable devices combined with exercise management of observation group can significantly improve HbA1c level of T2DM patients[Mean Difference(MD)=-0.55,95%Confidence Interval(CI):-0.95 to-0.15,P<0.05]and BMI[MD=-1.14,95%CI:-2.14 to-0.13,P<0.05].The results of subgroup analysis about the effect of different intervention duration on HbA1c and BMI indicated that there were not statistically significant differences in HbA1c between the observation group and control group when intervention durations were≤3,6,and 12 months(P>0.05),and there were not significant differences in BMI between two groups when the intervention duration were 3 months and 12 months(P>0.05).Seven domestic literatures showed that the HbA1c level in patients of the observation group was significantly improved[MD=-1.05,95%CI:(-1.49 and-0.61),P<0.05],while the six foreign literatures indicated there was not significant difference in HbA1c between two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:Smart wearable devices combined with exercise management can significantly improve HbA1c and BMI levels in T2DM patients,and enhance quality of life for them.
