Abstract

To enhance the wear resistance of the surfacing layer and investigate the effects of rare earth element on the welding process,CeO2 with varying contents(0,2%,4%,6%)was added to the composite powder particles to study its impact on the characteristics of open arcsurfacing,weld morphology,and dilution rate.The results indicate that the addition of CeO2reduces the effective ionization voltage of the arc atmosphere,thus causing the arc to expand outward and elongate,increasing the voltage from 40.6 V to 41.9 V.Arc expansion improves heat input and the powder particle melting efficiency,increasing the powder particles filling rate from 42.6%to 46.9%.The weld width increases while the depth decreases,with the maximum dilution rate reduced by approximately 34%,and the fusion line transformed from a bowl shape to an arc shape.An elevated proportion of composite powder particles in the surfacing melt,coupled with a reduced base metal dilution rate,enhances the concentration of alloying elements in the microstructure,thereby facilitating increased carbide formation.By influencing the behavior of the welding arc and molten pool,CeO2 optimizes the formation and microstructure characteristics of the surfacing layer.
