Generalizable crowd density estimation method based on Wi-Fi probe data

Abstract
With the growing demand for monitoring large-scale crowd gatherings,Wi-Fi-based crowd density estimation has become an important tool in public safety management.Howe ver,the significant variability of received signal strength indicator(RSSI)and MAC address anonymization hinder accurate individual identification.Estimation accuracy and stability remain difficult to guarantee,especially in high-density scenarios.This paper proposed a generalizable crowd density estimation method.It employed a cumula-tive RSSI calculation strategy within a time window and applied local modeling to build regional density mapping relationships.It could capture dynamic variations of crowd flow and ensures stable estimation in complex environments.The experiment shows meter-level spatial resolution with an overall accuracy of 0.972 3 and an accuracy of 0.897 4 in high-density scenarios.The results demonstrate robust performance,strong generalizability,and good potential for deployment in different scenarios.关键词
