Functional testing of reverse recovery protection unit for light-triggered Thyristor Converter Valves

Abstract
To address the problems in conducting safe and precise functional testing of the Reverse Recovery Protection Unit(RPU)for Light-Triggered Thyristor(LTT)converter valves in high-potential environments and under invisible laser condi-tions,this paper proposes an RPU functional testing method based on the low-voltage isolation principle and develops a multi-physics coupled testing platform incorporating an"optical-electrical-optical"collaborative monitoring mechanism.The platform utilizes controllable pulses to simulate transient du/dt in valve sections and employs electro-optical links to achieve visualized detection of laser pulses,which enable systematic verification of the RPU's self-powered performance,trigger threshold accuracy,pulse broadening capability,and laser triggering stability.Experimental results demonstrate that the pro-posed testing system can safely,stably,and quantitatively reproduce the key operational characteristics of the RPU during the reverse recovery period,with a trigger threshold error not exceeding±5.15%and a response time below 1 μs while a-chieving pulse width extension,thereby satisfying the minimum energy requirements for reliable conduction of light-triggered thyristors.This study provides a promotable experimental method and testing framework for the condition assessment and en-gineering verification of HVDC converter valves systems.关键词
