Circulating current suppression strategy for MMC-HVDC based on SOGI harmonic extraction and PIR+virtual impedance

Abstract
Harmonics in the circulating current of Modular Multilevel Converters(MMC)can affect the power transmission quality of Voltage-Sourced Converter High-Voltage Direct Current(VSC-HVDC)systems.To improve MMC performance,a circulating current suppression strategy using an improved Quasi-Resonant(QR)controller combined with virtual impedance is proposed to reduce the harmonic content in the circulating current,specifically targeting the second-order and higher-order harmonics.First,the mechanism of circulating current generation is analyzed.Then a multi-harmonic filter based on the Sec-ond-Order Generalized Integrator(SOGI)is designed to extract multiple harmonics from the circulating current in response to the problem of accuracy in multiple harmonic extraction.By integrating proportional-integral adjustment into the improved QR control,a Quasi-Proportional Integral Resonant(PIR)controller is obtained to suppress the second-order harmonic,while virtual impedance is introduced to suppress higher-order harmonics.Finally,a simulation model of the MMC-HVDC system was developed,and comparative simulation analysis validated the effectiveness of the proposed circulating current suppres-sion strategy.关键词
