The Effects and Mechanisms of Service-Oriented Peasant Cooperatives in Linking with and Driving Peasants

Abstract
As an effective vehicle bridging smallholder peasants and modern agriculture,peasants'cooperatives have long been entrusted with the historical mission of linking and empowering peasants.Unlike existing research focusing on their role in linking and empowering peasants as business entities,this paper examines the effectiveness and implementation mechanisms of peasants'cooperatives as service providers in this regard.Research reveals that unlike traditional production-oriented cooperatives,service-oriented peasant cooperatives primarily function by providing agricultural production services to peasants to generate service income.Their establishment and development result from the combined influence of internal and external factors.In practice,these service cooperatives demonstrate multiple effects in linking peasants to agriculture,including boosting peasants'income,enhancing production efficiency,maintaining village structures,and facilitating policy implementation.These outcomes rely on the coordinated operation of four mechanisms:production embedding and benefit linkage;technology adaptation and scaled services;village-cooperative collaboration and community integration;and policy-resource alignment and conversion.Specifically:By providing productive services and establishing win-win distribution models,service-oriented cooperatives lay the economic foundation for peasant-cooperative collaboration;Leveraging technology systems adapted to smallholder peasants and scaled service provision,they help smallholders reduce costs and increase efficiency;Activating internal organizational and social resources within rural communities to reduce service delivery costs;Converting external policy support into internal service capacity to sustain cooperative development.Therefore,this paper recommends that while advocating for new agricultural entities to connect with and benefit peasants,greater emphasis should be placed on supporting and guiding service-oriented entities.关键词
