Reshaping the Family Economic Safety Net:The Impact of Long-term Care Insurance on Family Economic Resilience

Abstract
In the context of rising population ageing and increasing demand for elderly care,there are significant theoretical and practical values in investigating whether long-term care insurance can enhance family economic resilience.This study utilizes the difference-in-differences(DID)method,drawing upon data from the China Household Finance Survey(CHFS)spanning the years 2013,2015,2017,and 2019,to examine the impact of long-term care insurance on family economic resilience.Findings reveal that the implementation of long-term care insurance significantly boosts family economic resilience,with insured families experiencing an increase of approximately 0.03 units compared to uninsured families.Specifically,the policy's economic resilience-enhancing effect is more pronounced for rural,low-asset,low-human-capital,and senior households.Mechanistic analysis suggests that long-term care insurance effectively increases family income,with insured families seeing a total income increase of about ¥24781 and a per capita income increase of approximately ¥5583.Concurrently,it significantly alleviates family liquidity constraints,with insured families experiencing a reduction of about 10.5%in liquidity constraints.The extended research indicates that long-term care insurance also effectively reduces household poverty vulnerability,further corroborating its positive impact on family economic resilience.This study broadens the scope of research on the effects of long-term care insurance and provides scientific evidence and theoretical reference for how to enhances family welfare levels through long-term care insurance.关键词
