How New Quality Productive Forces empower high-quality corporate development:Causal evidence from double machine learning

Abstract
New quality productive forces constitute an important pathway for breaking traditional growth bottlenecks and achieving high-quality corporate development.Using a sample of A-share listed firms in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2013 to 2022,this study constructs a comprehensive index system to measure the level of new quality productive forces and evaluates corporate high-quality development from the perspectives of economic efficiency and social benefits.Based on a theoretical analysis of the underlying mechanisms,the causal impact of new quality productive forces on corporate high-quality development is empirically examined using the double machine learning(DML)approach. The results indicate that new quality productive forces significantly enhance firms' total factor productivity and sustainable development performance.From a multidimensional perspective,new quality productive forces exert positive effects on environmental and social development,while having a negative impact on corporate governance.Mechanism analysis shows that new quality productive forces promote high-quality corporate development by improving innovation efficiency,strengthening product market competitiveness,and alleviating financing constraints. Further heterogeneity analysis reveals that the promoting effects are more pronounced for firms located in central and western regions,state-owned enterprises,non-high-tech firms,and non-manufacturing firms.Overall,this study provides causal evidence on the role of new quality productive forces in fostering high-quality corporate development and offers theoretical insights and policy implications for firm-level high-quality growth.关键词
