Clinical Study on Modified Ginseng and Cinnamon Twig Heart-Strengthening Decoction in the Treatment of Chronic Heart Failure

Abstract
Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of Modified Ginseng and Cinnamon Twig Heart-Strengthening Decoction on chronic heart failure(CHF)with syndrome of qi deficiency and blood stasis and phlegm-fluid retention.Methods:A total of 96 CHF patients were randomly divided into the conventional group and the Chinese medicinal group using the random number table method,with 48 ca-ses in each group.The conventional group received standard Western medical treatment,while the Chinese medicinal group received Modified Ginseng and Cinnamon Twig Heart-Strengthening Decoction in addition to the standard treatment given to the conventional group.Then the changes in TCM syndrome scores,serological indicators[including hypoxia-inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α),growth dif-ferentiation factor-15(GDF-15),and brain natriuretic peptide(BNP)],cardiac function parameters[including left ventricular end-di-astolic diameter(LVEDD),left ventricular end-systolic diameter(LVESD),left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF),6-minute walk distance(6MWD)],adverse reactions,and quality of life scores before and after treatment were compared between the two groups.Re-sults:After treatment,the scores for primary symptoms,secondary symptoms,and total scores in the two groups were all lower than those before treatment within the same group.Furthermore,the scores in the Chinese medicinal group were lower than those in the convention-al group,with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).The levels of HIF-1α and GDF-15 in the two groups were all lower than those before treatment within the same group.Moreover,the levels in the Chinese medicinal group were lower than those in the conven-tional group,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).LVEDD,LVESD,and BNP in the two groups were all lower,while LVEF and 6MWD were all higher than those before treatment within the same group,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The scores in the physical,emotional,and other domains of quality of life were lower than those before treatment within the same group for the two groups,and the scores in the Chinese medicinal group were all lower than those in the conventional group,with statisti-cally significant differences(P<0.05).However,there was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:Modified Ginseng and Cinnamon Twig Heart-Strengthening Decoction in the treatment of CHF with the syndrome of qi deficiency,blood stasis,and phlegm-fluid retention can improve patients'TCM syndromes,reduce serum levels of HIF-1α and GDF-15,and enhance their cardiac function and quality of life.关键词
