Abstract

Precisely identifying the spatial boundaries of intra-urban industrial agglomeration areas and examining their relationships with surrounding land-use configurations is essential for revealing the micro-scale spatial organization of industries and promoting the optimization of urban spatial structures.Clarifying the adaptation mechanisms between different industrial functional zones and land-use types can improve the intensity and refinement of land use,thereby providing a scientific basis and decision-making support for optimizing urban industrial spatial layouts and improving land resource allocation.Using multi-source big data—including China's customs data,points of interest(POIs),and nighttime light data—from 2010,2013,and 2016,this study applies a Gaussian Mixture Model(GMM)to identify clusters of mobile phone enterprises within urban areas.The spatial morphology of these agglomeration areas is then characterized using methods such as the minimum bounding rectangle and the best-fitting ellipse,and their corresponding industrial functions are subsequently matched.The study further examines,at the micro scale,the supporting role of surrounding land use in sustaining the functions of enterprise agglomeration areas.By exploring the drivers and mechanisms of enterprise clustering,this study summarizes land-use composition patterns for different functional spaces within the mobile phone industry and proposes targeted smart mixed-use land strategies.The empirical results are as follows.First,the number of mobile phone industry agglomeration areas in Shenzhen increased steadily from 2010 to 2016.Second,industrial functional zones can be precisely identified through a framework of"boundary identification-morphological classification-function matching".Based on five spatial forms,such as the single-block agglomeration patterns,five categories of industrial functional spaces are further distinguished,including"composite functional spaces centered on mid-to-downstream communication terminal assembly".Third,regarding influencing factors,the surrounding built environment significantly promotes the agglomeration of mobile phone industry,with notable heterogeneity.A mixed land-use pattern combining residential land and public service land is more conducive to the agglomeration of"composite functional spaces centered on mid-to-downstream communication terminal assembly".A combination of industrial land and commercial service land has a significant positive effect on clusters characterized as"single-function spaces centered on midstream mobile phone metal component production".Commercial service land supports the formation of"single-function spaces centered on upstream leather accessory manufacturing".A mixed pattern of industrial land and transportation infrastructure land facilitates the agglomeration of"composite functional spaces centered on upper-and midstream optical components and packaging materials".Meanwhile,a mixture of industrial land,residential land,and transportation infrastructure land is conducive to the formation of"mixed function spaces involving multi-category component manufacturing across the entire industrial chain".Fourth,based on the adaptation patterns between industrial functional spaces and land use,this study proposes smart mixed land-use strategies."Composite functional spaces centered on mid-to-downstream terminal assembly"should be guided by jobs-housing balance and service accessibility."Single-functional spaces centered on midstream mobile phone metal component production"should prioritize efficient industrial use and improved commercial services."Single-functional spaces centered on upstream leather accessory manufacturing"should emphasize enhanced commercial support facilities."Composite functional spaces centered on upper-and midstream optical components and packaging materials"rely more heavily on industry and transportation and should be oriented toward production agglomeration and transport connectivity.Finally,"mixed functional spaces for multi-category component manufacturing across the entire industrial chain"should emphasize industrial chain collaboration and technological support.Overall,the mobile phone industry exhibits diverse demands for the surrounding environment at different stages of development and across different functional spaces.Surrounding land-use patterns are closely associated with the spatial layout of industrial functional zones.By focusing on the land-use composition surrounding agglomeration areas and revealing the land-use requirements of different functional clusters,this study provides quantitative evidence at the micro scale for optimizing industrial agglomeration spaces.
