Cultural network reconstruction and innovation in rural governance mechanisms:a case study of ge-nealogy compilation in Yizhuang Village,Shanxi Province

Abstract

This study,taking the"divided"village of Yizhuang in central Shanxi as a case,to explore how traditional cultural re-sources facilitate the reproduction of cultural networks and activate effective rural governance through three mechanisms:symbol-ic production,rule nesting,and technology empowerment.The findings reveal that in terms of symbolic production,protective brokers reconstruct cultural symbols,transforming clan memories into public identity,thereby providing cultural legitimacy for village governance.The rule nesting mechanism integrates affective norms with modern management systems,preserving tradi-tional moral authority while enhancing governance efficiency.The technology empowerment mechanism,relying on digital me-dia,transcends spatial and temporal constraints,enabling absent villagers to achieve"disembedding participation."Technology brokers mediate conflicts between patriarchal values and modern ideals through online deliberation.The study demonstrates that achieving rural revitalization in"divided"villages requires not only external resource inputs but also the activation of the gover-nance potential embedded in local cultural networks,thereby reconnecting divided individuals and realizing effective rural gover-nance.
