Research on farmers'willingness to participate in forestry shareholding cooperatives

Abstract
To address the"fragmentation"dilemma of forestland management after the collective forest tenure reform,this paper took forestry shareholding cooperatives as the research object,based on survey data collected from 735 farm households in Sanming City,Fujian Province,built an analytical framework based on the Theory of Planned Behavior,and used the generalized ordered Logit model and marginal effect analysis to systematically identify the key determinants of farmers'participation willingness and their heterogeneous mechanism in different willingness stages.The study found that:(1)Social trust exhibited a significant differentiation effect.Trust in cooperative partners had a significant positive effect in all willingness stages,with a marginal effect of 10.73％,which was a major driver of farmers'deeper participation.While trust in fellow villagers showed a stable and significantly negative effect in all stages(marginal effect-4.13％),suggesting that traditional acquaintance networks had a substitution effect on formal cooperation systems to a certain extent.(2)The perceived security of forestland property rights demonstrated obvious state differences.It inhibited participation motivation in the low-willingness stage,but in the high-willingness transition stage,the coefficient reached 0.6364(p<0.01)and the marginal effect rose to 8.58％,highlighting the importance of property-right stability in strengthening farmers'investment confidence.(3)Risk factors displayed a clear"push-pull effect".Perceived risks of shareholding significantly discouraged participation willingness in all stages(marginal effect-7.03％),whereas investment risk preference significantly promoted participation motivation(marginal effect 4.29％).(4)Forestland area only had a significant positive effect in the middle willingness stage,which helped farmers overcome the initial observation barrier,but had limited effect on stimulating extremely high participation willingness.Overall,farmers'participation in forestry shareholding cooperatives was not only affected by resource endowment and risk perception,but also deeply restricted by the structure of rural social trust.Policy implications:On the basis of improving the collective forest tenure system and enhancing property right stability,we should strengthen the construction of cooperatives'governance capacity and information transparency,cultivate contractual trust and institutional trust,guide farmers to change from relying on acquaintance relations to participating in institutionalized cooperation,so as to promote the healthy development of forestry cooperative management mode.关键词
