Abstract

During the pile removal operations in deep soft soil areas,the flow of soft soil around the removed pile into the space previously occupied by the pile can cause horizontal displacement of the surrounding soil within a certain range,and then cause displacement of the adjacent engineering structures.Therefore,a reasonable method should be adopted to assess the impact of pile removal on the strata before the removal process.Focuses on a deep soft soil area project where pile removal caused displacement of the bridge's pile foundations,field pile removal tests were conducted to measure the variation law of deep-seated lateral displacement in the strata surrounding the removed piles.Based on this,the pile removal effect was simulated by amount of pile hole shrinkage,finite element analysis(FEA)was further adopted to numerically simulate the stratum deformation under two working conditions of"single pile removal"and"single pile removal with isolation pile wall".Among these conditions,the results of the"single pile removal"working condition were in good agreement with the field test data,verifying the rationality of the pile removal effect simulation method;The results of the"single pile removal with isolation pile wall"working condition showed that the installation of isolation pile wall can effectively limit the range of stratum disturbance and protect the adjacent pile foundations.This finding was applied to the pile removal analysis in subsequent phases of the project,achieving the favorable results.
