Floating Needling Myofascial Trigger Points for Pain in Osteoporotic Thoracolumbar Compression Fractures:A Randomized Controlled Trial

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the clinical efficacy of floating needling myofascial trigger points in treatment of pain caused by osteoporotic thoracolumbar compression fractures and to explore its effects on serum levels of interleukin-6(IL-6)and tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α).Methods:A total of 105 patients were randomly divided into the floating acupuncture group,the conventional acupuncture group,and the medication group,with 35 patients in each group.The floating acupuncture group was treated with floating needling myofascial trigger points,once daily for the first three days,and once every two days thereafter;the conventional acupuncture group received acupuncture once daily;and the medication group was treated with daily injections of Salmon Calcitonin.All treatments lasted for 15 days,with the floating acupuncture group receiving a total of nine sessions.The scores of VAS,TCM symptoms,and ODI,as well as the serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-α were compared between before and after the treatment in the three groups.The clinical efficacy was compared among the three groups.Results:The scores of VAS,TCM symptoms,and ODI were significantly decreased after the treatment compared to those before the treatment in the three groups(P＜0.05),and the scores were lower in the floating acupuncture group than those in the conventional acupuncture group and the medication group(P＜0.05).The serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-α were decreased significantly in all three groups after the treatment(P＜0.05),with the most significant decreases observed in the floating acupuncture group(P＜0.05).The total effective rate was 97.14％(34/35)in the floating acupuncture group,which was significantly higher than 82.86％(29/25)in the conventional acupuncture group and 71.43％(25/35)in the medication group(P＜0.05).No serious adverse reactions occurred in any of the three groups.Conclusion:Floating needling myofascial trigger points can effectively alleviate pain and improve functional activity in patients with osteoporotic thoracolumbar compression fractures.Its therapeutic effect may be achieved by reducing serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-α.关键词
