Research progress on collection and measurement methods of plant root exudates

Abstract
Root exudates serve as crucial mediators in the interactions between plants,soil,and microorganisms.In recent years,studies on root exudates have significantly increased,leading to the widespread application of various methods for their collection,separation,purification,and identification.However,notable discrepancies exist in the types and quantities of root exudates obtained through different methodologies.Consequently,selecting appropriate collection,separation,purification,and measurement techniques tailored to specific experimental and research needs has become essential for the accurate quantification of root exudates.This paper systematically reviews common collection methods for root exudates,including hydroponic,aeroponic,soil solution collection(soil shaking,negative pressure,and soil microdialysis),matrix culture collection,rhizobox collection,imaging technology,and hybrid.In addition,the separation methods of root exudates are summarized,including the resin process,derivatization and extraction,molecular membranes,and ultrafast centrifugation,as well as the identification methods of root exudates,including high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC),gas chromatography(GC),nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR),and metabolomics.In addition,this review evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of the different collection,separation,purification,and identification methods,while proposing potential avenues for their improvement.Finally,we provide recommendations for the collection and measurement of root exudates within grassland ecosystems,aiming to compile a valuable reference future studies on root exudates in grassland plants.关键词
