Quality of corn stover silage in different elevation areas of Hebei Province

Abstract
To investigate the effect of different elevations on the fermentation of corn(Zea mays)stover silage,84 corn stover silage feeds were collected as research objects from 28 large-scale farms at five different elevations(0-10 m;11-100 m;101-500 m;501-1 000 m;and more than 1 000 m)in Hebei Province.Fermentation indices,nutritional indices,and relative feeding values were measured,and the data were subjected to analysis of variance(ANOVA),correlation analysis,and comprehensive evaluation.The results showed significant differences in the indices of corn stover silage from different elevations of Hebei Province(P<0.05).The ether extract(EE),crude protein(CP)and total nitrogen(TN)values were significantly higher in the regions at 501-1 000 m and above 1 000 m than those in other regions(P<0.05),whereas dry matter(DM)and neutral detergent fiber(NDF)values were significantly lower than those in other areas(P<0.05).Further,the relative feeding value of corn stover silage in areas above 1 000 m was significantly higher than that in the other regions(P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed a highly significant positive correlation of elevation with pH,ammonia nitrogen(NH3-N),acetic acid(AA),propionic acid(PA),EE,CP,TN,dry matter intake(DMI),relative feed value(RFV),and relative forage quality(RFQ)(P<0.01),and a highly significant negative correlation with valeric acid(VA),DM,and NDF(P<0.01).A comprehensive analysis of the quality of corn stover silage at different elevation areas ranked as follows:above 1 000 m(0.616)>501-1 000 m(0.513)>11-100 m(0.506)>101-500 m(0.460)>0-10 m area(0.455).Overall,this study found an upward trend,wherein the comprehensive quality of corn stover silage feed was the best in regions above 1 000 m,and the worst in the 0-10 m region;therefore,these findings provide data support for selecting and utilizing corn stover silage in different areas.关键词
