Abstract

Bimetallic oxide CoFe2O4 was synthesized by the hydrothermal method and systematically characterized.The CoFe2O4 was employed to activate peroxymonosulfate(PMS)for the degradation of acetaminophen(ACE)in aqueous solutions.The key factors affecting the removal effect of ACE were investigated.The reaction mechanism was discussed.The characterization results demonstrate that CoFe2O4 exhibits a quasi-spherical morphology with a relatively rough surface,high crystallinity,and a saturation magnetization of 55.4 A·m2/kg.According to the experimental results,with the ACE mass concentration of 5 mg/L,initial pH of 7.0,PMS dosage of 0.8 mmol/L,and CoFe2O4 dosage of 1.00 g/L,The ACE removal rate is 100.0%after reaction for 15 min.When the ACE mass concentration is increased to 10 mg/L and reaction time is prolonged to 25 min with other conditions unchanged,the ACE removal rate can be 81.9%after five consecutive CoFe2O4 reaction cycles,demonstrating excellent reusability and stability.The HCO3-shows a slight promotion effect on the removal of ACE,while NO3-has no significant impact on the removal rate of ACE.The Cl-and humic acid(HA)exhibits inhibitory effect on the degradation of ACE.Both sulfate radicals(SO4-·)and hydroxyl radicals(·OH)are involved in the oxidative degradation of ACE in the CoFe2O4/PMS system.
