A Study on the Edition System of Traditional Chinese Medicine Dramas in the Ming and Qing Dynasties
摘要
Abstract
Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)dramas in the Ming and Qing dynasties embody a wealth of TCM knowledge and constitute invaluable documentary materials for studying the inheritance and development of TCM,the dynamics of commercial society, and the history of knowledge dissemination during that period.TCM dramas, particularly the Qing-dynasty dramas on medicinal properties, achieved an exceptional breadth of dissemination and depth of popularization. This study aims to systematically organize the editions of these TCM dramas in the Ming and Qing dynasties to clarify textual lineages, correct confusion in transmission, and carry out emergency preservation of this precious cultural heritage of TCM.According to investigations into existing institutional holdings, most Ming-dynasty TCM dramas are now unique copies or rare editions, seldom accessible to the public. Many surviving editions of Qing-dynasty dramas on medicinal properties are handwritten copies with serious errors and omissions. In addition, many editions circulated among private collectors, who often keep them as treasured possessions, making them difficult for ordinary researchers to trace.Studies on the edition system reveal a clear trajectory of inheritance and dissemination of editions of TCM dramas in the Ming and Qing dynasties. In the Ming dynasty, medical legendary dramas began to emerge and formed an edition system represented by Sun Zhenren Nanji Dengxianhui(The Immortal Gathering of Sun Simiao in the South Pole). From the late Ming dynasty to the early Qing dynasty,medicine-name novels rose and formed an edition system represented by Caomu Chunqiu Yanyi(The Romance of the Spring and Autumn Annals of Plants),which gradually evolved into medicine-name dramas and formed an edition system represented by Manaozan Ji(The Agate Hairpin Tale). In the mid-Qing dynasty, dramas on medicinal properties flourished and formed a large and complex edition system represented by Yaohui Tu(The Illustrated Compendium of Medicinals). The evolution of the editions of TCM dramas in the Ming and Qing dynasties constitutes an important link in the inheritance and development of TCM culture, and it is a concrete embodiment of the historical logic and dissemination paradigm of the symbiosis of commerce and culture.关键词
