Abstract

The experiment used Apocynum venetum and Poacynum hendersonii as materials to investi-gate the effects of carbon ion beam irradiation at different doses on seed germination and seedling growth,aiming to provide technical support for carbon ion beam irradiation mutagenesis breeding in these two spe-cies of Apocynum.The results showed that carbon ion beam irradiation had no significant effect on the germination rate of Apocynum venetum,but high doses significantly inhibited germination potential,ger-mination index,root length,and shoot length,prolonged germination time,while low doses showed no significant effects.All irradiation treatments increased its seedling emergence rate.For Poacynum hender-sonii,germination rate,germination potential,and germination index initially increased with dose,pea-king at 40 Gy,and then gradually decreased.Low-dose irradiation(20 Gy)promoted root and shoot growth,while root length and shoot length gradually decreased with increasing irradiation doses.Seedling emergence rates were significantly improved at 20-80 Gy,but shifted to inhibition at higher doses.The effects of carbon ion beam irradiation on the survival rates of the two Apocynum species were similar:low doses improved seedling survival rates,while high doses significantly reduced them,though the shoulder doses differed.The median lethal dose(LD50)for Apocynum venetum was 182 Gy,and the growth reduc-tion dose for 50%root length(GR50)was 149 Gy.For Poacynum hendersonii,both LD50 and GR50 were 149 Gy,indicating that Poacynum hendersonii is more sensitive to carbon ion beam irradiation.
