Treating Pediatric Chalazion from Spleen and Stomach Based on The Theory of"Sungu Zeyu"
摘要
Abstract
Chalazion is a common ophthalmic condition in children and adolescents, caused by obstruction of meibomian glands or Zeis glands. It is characterized by chronic, sterile, granulomatous inflammation confined to the eyelids, prone to multiple recurrences and difficult to resolve.Western Medicine treatment mainly involves hot compress,or combined with antibiotic eye ointment, but the efficacy is limited.Severe cases require surgical incision and curettage, which however substantially damages the normal structure of meibomian glands, fails to reduce the recurrence rate, and is difficult to achieve a radical cure.In Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),the etiology and pathogenesis of this disease are mostly attributed to spleen failing in transportation, accumulation of dampness generating phlegm, and upward obstruction of collateral vessels in eyelid, eventually leading to phlegm node in eyelid presenting as indurated lump.Based on the theories of"Sungu Zeyu"and"preventive treatment of disease(Zhiweibing)",this paper discusses treating pediatric chalazion from spleen and stomach. It advocates invigorating spleen and harmonizing stomach, resolving phlegm and removing stagnation, combined with daily dietary control of reducing food intake(Sungu),aiming to improve accumulation and stagnation in spleen and stomach, restore stomach Qi,so as to promote disease recovery, reduce recurrence rate, enhance the overall physical and mental health of children, and provide a more compre-hensive and scientific diagnostic and therapeutic approach for clinical treat-ment of pediatric chalazion.关键词
