Adaptability and Interface Adhesion Mechanism of Inorganic Warm Core Box Binder with Base Sand

Abstract
The inorganic binder technology is one of important developing directions of environmentally friendly foundry materials,which has been achieved breakthroughs continuously in aluminum,iron,and steel casting fields for recent thirty years.In this investigation,taking the SQ inorganic binder of Shengquan Group as object,the differences of the binder performances were systimatically compared in two kinds of base sands of ceramite sand and silica sand with different fineness levels,and the characterizations of particle size,optical microscope,electrical conductivity,angularity factor,specific surface area,SEM,and so on were carried out for the base sands.The results demonstrate that the base sand type obviously affects the binder performance.Under the condition of a low binder addition,the initial flexural strengths and 1-hour flexural strengths of the ceramite sand samples are obviously higher that of the silica sand samples,even higher than that of the silica sand samples under the condition of a high binder addition,and this is primarily attributed to the strong adhesive strength resulted from the unique surface structure of the ceramite sand.It is also found through SEM characterization that the binder film thicknesses on the surfaces of base sands exist difference.The measured values of the binder film thicknesses on the surfaces of ceramite sands are much lower than the theoretical calculation values,while the measured values for silica sands are a little more than the calculation values,and this discovery further verified the positive effect of the base sand surface structure on the strengh property of binder.This investigation revealed the influence of base sand characteristics on the binder performances,and provided basis and essential data for in-depth understanding of the interfacial interaction mechanism between the inorganic binder and base sand,optimizing the molding process conditions,and expanding the application of ceramite sand in aluminum casting field.关键词
