Empowering Urban Art Design with Non-material Catalyst Elements:a Case Study of the Yuanjiawan Historical District
摘要
Abstract
With the acceleration of urbanization, historical districts are increasingly facing the dual challenges of physical deterioration and cultural decline. This study takes the Yuanjiawan Historical District in Quanjiao County,Anhui Province as a case and empirically tests the hypothesis that non-material catalysts can significantly enhance the vitality of urban neighborhoods.Through a comprehensive review of local policies, field investigations, and comparative analysis of official data, the study identifies the unique non-material catalyst elements of Yuanjiawan and examines their application pathways and effectiveness in the protection and renewal of the district. The findings reveal that intangible elements—such as local folk customs, traditional craftsmanship, and community memory—have effectively stimulated spatial vitality and cultural identity through mechanisms of emotional resonance, behavioral guidance, network fission, and incremental renewal. This research summarizes practical experiences in empowering urban art design with non-material catalysts and provides a reference for the sustainable regeneration of historical districts in small and medium-sized cities.关键词
