Abstract

To rationally assess the impacts of damages to individual stayed cable on the overall structural per-formance of cable-stayed bridges,an energy-based approach for determining cable weighting coefficients was proposed.Firstly,the weighting coefficient of the stayed cable was defined from the energy perspective as the weighted average of the total energy variation in the bridge system induced by cable damage.Subsequently,by analyzing the energy variations in the girder,cable,and pylon systems under cable rupture scenarios,the total system energy variation was obtained,and the changes in structural response before and after cable failure were quantified using finite element modeling,realizing the calculation of the weighting coefficients.Finally,a variable-weight synthesis method was introduced to incorporate these coefficients into the existing evaluation frameworks for cable-stayed bridges,thereby establishing a novel condition assessment methodology that ex-plicitly accounts for component-level weighting.The proposed method was applied in the evaluation of stayed cables of a certain cable-stayed bridge.The results show that this method can effectively quantify the contribu-tion of individual cable performance score and reflect the actual in-service condition of stayed cables.It ad-dresses the limitations of the stiffness matrix method and the strain energy-based sensitivity analysis method,both of which are often difficult to be applied to large and complex structures when determining component im-portance,thus providing a valuable theoretical reference for scientific maintenance and management of cable-stayed bridges.
