Abstract

The widely used four-electrode method effectively avoids issues such as electrode polarization and contact resistance.However,electrode penetration can disturb soil structure and affect resistivity readings.Differences in penetration depth also cause current field attenuation discrepancies,potentially biasing results,and limiting applicability to hard soils or rocks.Therefore,improved evaluation methods are needed to accu-rately determine true resistivity in geotechnical media.This study analyzes the testing principles of the four-electrode method and conducts penetration-resistivity tests on sandy and clayey soils to explore resistivity variation with depth and to develop an attenuation model.Results show that resistivity increases approximately linearly with penetration depth,as deeper electrodes reduce current attenuation.Water content and dry density significantly influence this trend.After systematically examining the mechanisms by which factors such as wa-ter content,dry density,and soil type affect conductive penetration behavior,a multivariate nonlinear regres-sion attenuation model is established.Based on resistivity growth rate and its exponential relation to penetra-tion depth,along with threshold analysis,a surface-to-internal resistivity conversion model is proposed and validated.The findings broaden the applicability of the four-electrode method and achieves the goal of predict-ing internal true resistivity from basic soil state parameters.
