Research and Development of Modular Commutated Converter Based on IGCT

Abstract
The Modular Commutated Converter(MCC)is a novel high-voltage and high-power AC-DC conversion equipment.Compared to the Modular Multilevel Converter(MMC),MCC significantly reduces the requirements for submodule capacitors and power semiconductor devices,improves operational efficiency,reduces footprint,and enhances economy,making it suitable for applications such as renewable energy DC collection and flexible DC transmission.This paper first analyzes the operation principle and advantages of the IGCT-based MCC,then investigates the design methodology for its main circuit parameters,including bridge arm current,AC-DC decoupling voltage regulation,number of submodules,and submodule capacitor.Additionally,the operational control strategy for the MCC is presented.Based on this research,a±15kV/60MW IGCT-MCC converter-valve prototype has been developed,and theoretical analysis along with the performance of the MCC have been validated through simulations and engineering tests.关键词
