Analysis of the Development of Yunnan's Sugar Mills from the Perspective of Production Capacity and Mechanization

Abstract
This paper aims to systematically evaluate the production efficiency,technological level,and industrial chain extension capabilities of Yunnan's sugar mills from the dual perspectives of capacity utilization and mechanization development,thereby clarifying their positioning and development bottlenecks within the national sugar production system.This study is based on data from multiple sources,including the agricultural situation monitoring data of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs from 2021 to 2025,data from the Yunnan Sugar Industry Association for the 2024/25 crushing season,the Yunnan Statistical Yearbook,and questionnaire surveys.It systematically analyzes the production capacity,crushing volume,and sugar recovery rate of Yunnan's sugar mills,the sugar production methods and by-product utilization characteristics of major mills,and the current status and existing problems of sugarcane mechanization development.The results indicate that while Yunnan ranks second nationally in sugar production capacity,its utilization rate shows significant volatility;its sugar recovery rate consistently exceeds 13％,higher than the national average.Large-scale sugar mills lead in the circular economy model,while small and medium-sized mills pursue differentiated development.Mechanization faces constraints due to mountainous terrain,and the mechanized harvesting rate needs improvement.The study proposes countermeasures and suggestions,including optimizing capacity layout,promoting advanced technologies,enhancing comprehensive by-product utilization,increasing R&D and promotion of mechanization,and strengthening policy support,aiming to provide a reference for the development and construction of Yunnan's sugar industry.关键词
