Abstract

This study elucidated the synergism and field application of malathion combined with clothianidin or acetamiprid against Nilaparvata lugens.The indoor toxicity of single insecticides and their combinations against third-instar nymphs of N.lugens was evaluated using the rice seedling dipping method,and their control efficacy was assessed in a field experiment.Indoor toxicity results showed that malathion+clothianidin exhibited synergism at active ingredient mass ratios of 3∶1,5.5∶1,and 9.5∶1,with the optimal ratio of 5.5∶1 yielding a co-toxicity coefficient of 201.30.Malathion+acetamiprid demonstrated synergism at ratios of 1∶1,2∶1,and 3∶1,with 2∶1 identified as optimal,producing a co-toxicity coefficient of 165.51 and the lowest median lethal concentration(LC50).The field experiment indicated that malathion+clothianidin(5.5∶1)and malathion+acetamiprid(2∶1)achieved significantly higher control efficacy than either insecticide applied alone at 3,7,and 14 d after treatment.These findings indicated that malathion,when combined with the neonicotinoids clothianidin and acetamiprid at ratios of 5.5∶1 and 2∶1,respectively,yielded synergistic enhancement and superior field performance.
