Evaluation of the intervention effect of organizational skills training on school—age children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the effectiveness of organizational skills training(OST)in improving symptoms and functional outcomes among school-aged children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder(ADHD),and to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of its localized implementation in China.Methods:A single-group pre-post design was adopted.Twelve children diagnosed with ADHD at the Department of Child Mental Health,Affiliated Women and Children's Hospital of Qingdao University,between August and December 2023,were recruited by con-venience sampling.All participants received 20 OST sessions over 10 weeks(twice weekly).Changes in executive function,ADHD symptoms,and parental stress were assessed using the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function,Second Edition(BRIEF-2),the Swanson,Nolan,and Pelham Rating Scale(SNAP-Ⅳ),and the Parenting Stress Questionnaire(PSQ),respectively.Results:After intervention,the total BRIEF-2 score significantly decreased(t=3.99,P<0.05).Significant improvements were observed in the shift domain(Z=-2.06,P<0.05),as well as in emotional control,initiation,planning/organization,materials organization,cognitive regulation,and emotional regula-tion(t=2.50-4.17,P<0.05).The SNAP-Ⅳ total score and inattention subscale also showed significant reduc-tions(t=4.50,4.87;P<0.05).The total PSQ score significantly decreased,indicating reduced parenting stress(t=4.56,P<0.05).Conclusion:Organizational skills training can effectively improve organizational abilities and attention in school-aged children with ADHD,while also alleviating parental stress,suggesting its practical value and poten-tial for broader application.关键词
