Effects of drunken status on clinical characteristics and outcomes in patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury

Abstract
Objective To investigate the association between drunk at the time of injury and the clinical characteristics and prognosis of patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury(msTBI).Methods The clinical data of 282 patients with msTBI admitted to the Affiliated Lianyungang Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from January 2020 to June 2024 were analyzed retrospectively,and they were categorized into alcohol and non-alcohol groups according to drunken at the time of injury.Univariable and multivariable Logistic regression analysis were performed to control for potential confounders and to evaluate the independent associations between drunken and key clinical outcomes.Results Multivariable Logistic regression analysis showed that drunken status was independently associated with a reduced risk of unfavorable short-term outcomes in patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury(OR=0.36,95%CI=0.16-0.78,P=0.009).Drunken status was also independently associated with shorter total hospital length of stay(OR=0.38,95%CI=0.18-0.79,P=0.009)and shorter ICU length of stay(OR=0.41,95%CI=0.21-0.83,P=0.013).No significant associations were observed between drunken status and total hospitalization costs or the incidence of postoperative pulmonary infection(all P>0.05).Conclusions Drunken status was associated with differences in clinical characteristics and was independently associated with a reduced risk of unfavorable short-term outcomes in patients with msTBI.关键词
