Cognition and management needs regarding frailty in elderly cancer patients:a Meta-synthesis of qualitative research

Abstract
Objective To systematically evaluate the cognition and management needs regarding frailty in elderly cancer patients,and to provide references for developing targeted frailty management programs.Methods A systematic search was performed in data-bases including PubMed,Medline,Embase,PsycINFO,CINAHL,the Cochrane Library,Web of Science,SinoMed,CNKI,Wanfang Data,and VIP for qualitative studies on elderly cancer patients'cognition and management needs regarding frailty,with a retrieval period spanning from database inception to July 2025.Results A total of 11 studies were included,with 43 research results extracted and 7 new categories summarized.Three results were integrated:cognitive biases caused by frailty;coping confidence and proactive health behaviors,and dilemmas in frailty management.Conclusion Elderly cancer patients demonstrate inadequate frailty cognition and face multiple challenges when managing frailty,and healthcare professionals should pay attention to their behaviors and needs.A hospital-community-family care system through multiple approaches and methods,and frailty management protocols tailored to Chinese national conditions should be established to improve patients'quality of life and clinical outcomes.关键词
