LIBS in mural conservation and Chinese herbal analysis:a review of applications and in strumentation

Abstract
Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS)has become a research hotspot in the field of elemental analysis due to its advantages of rapid,in-situ,minimally destructive,and simultaneous multi-element analysis,demonstrating significant potential for complex matrix samples in recent years.This paper reviews the research progress of our group in three frontier application areas of LIBS technology:In cultural heritage conservation,we highlight measurement methodologies for pigment identification,grain size assessment,and stratigraphic analysis of Dunhuang murals,while discussing the advantages of combining spectral matching algorithms with machine learning for mineral pigment recognition.In the screening of heavy metal contamination in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),we systematically elaborate on the integration of LIBS with chemometrics and machine learning for geographical origin tracing and the quantitative analysis of heavy metals and trace elements,providing a performance comparison of various analytical models.In analytical instrumentation,we summarize the design and development of portable,handheld,and online pipeline LIBS instruments tailored for rapid field and on-site detection,while exploring the trends toward miniaturization,automation,and intelligence.关键词
