Abstract

This study employs the mesoscale Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model and microscale weather model Calmet to simulate near-surface wind speeds in Jiangxi Province.Using the WRF-3DVAR assimilation system,assimilation experiments of conventional meteorological observation data were conducted.Moreover,the impact of meteorological conventional observation data assimilation on wind speed simulation was tested using data from meteorological stations and anemometer towers at typical wind farms in Jiangxi Province.The results show that:in most areas of Jiangxi Province,annual mean wind speeds at heights of 10-70 m from the assimilated experiment were 0.3-1.6 m/s lower than those from the non-assimilated experiment.Assimilation of conventional meteorological observation data improved the simulation of near-surface wind speed in Jiangxi Province,the correlation coefficient between simulated and observed wind speeds at meteorological stations increased by 0-0.28,the deviation decreased by 0.13-0.9 m/s,and the standard deviation decreased by 0.03-1.08 m/s.At low-level sites(10 m)in the Poyang Lake region,the assimilation experiments performed better than the non-assimilated simulations,although errors gradually increased with height.For the higher-altitude anemometer towers in the mountainous areas of southern Jiangxi,the non-assimilated experiment showed better simulation performance than assimilated experiment across 10-70 m heights.
