The Influence of Residential Location on Rural Households'Willingness to Support the Construction of Natural Protected Areas

Abstract
Nature reserves are important national natural ecological spaces,playing a significant role in maintaining biodiversity and providing ecological products.The support of farmers living around reserves for their construction is an important factor affecting the effectiveness of reserve development.This article takes six nature reserves and surrounding farmers in the Qinling region as the research subjects,using an ordered regression model to examine the impact of residential location on farmers'willingness to participate in conservation.The results show that geographic location,as one of the most important exogenous leading factors,jointly influences willingness with many other factors.Specifically,"the higher the residential altitude"and"the farther from the reserve boundary"both lead to a decrease in farmers'willingness to participate,indicating that geographic proximity and the resulting dependence on livelihood resources and differences in environmental perception are very important.Meanwhile,the"closer to the town market positively affects conservation willingness"may be because farmers can more easily access alternatives due to a lower pursuit of substitute livelihoods.Among control variables,farmers with a higher level of education,larger forest land area,family members working outside,and support for water resource recycling show stronger willingness to support the construction of nature reserves.Based on this,the article proposes countermeasures such as adopting region-specific policies,promoting diversified livelihoods,improving the ecological compensation system,and strengthening localized environmental awareness cultivation to enhance the effectiveness of farmers'participation in conservation.关键词
