Research Progress on Cucumber Genetics and Breeding in China during'The 14th Five-year Plan'

Abstract
During'The 14th Five-year Plan'period,significant breakthroughs has been made in both basic and applied research on cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.),alongside notable progress in molecular breeding techniques,collectively driving the upgrade of new variety development.This paper systematically reviews the major advances over the past five years in several key areas,including the genetic mapping of important agronomic traits,elucidation of functional mechanisms,development of molecular markers,haploid breeding,and the application of transgenic and gene-editing technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9.It also summarizes representative achievements in germplasm resource evaluation,breeding material innovation,and new variety breeding.Based on this review,we analyze the main challenges currently facing and propose future research directions.This review aims to provide a valuable reference for the genetic improvement and efficient breeding of cucumber.关键词
