Research progress in resistance welding of thermoplastic composites

Abstract
Fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites(FRTPCs)have been widely used in aerospace,maritime,high-end equipment,and other fields due to their excellent mechanical properties,light weight,corrosion resistance,and recy-clability.However,owing to the characteristics of their thermoplastic resin matrix,traditional joining techniques,such as mechanical fastening and adhesive bonding,cannot satisfy the requirements for structural strength and durability in cer-tain applications.Consequently,welding of FRTPCs has emerged as a promising alternative for their connection and as-sembly,particularly resistance welding technology.This paper summarizes the fundamental principles of FRTPC resis-tance welding,provides an in-depth discussion of the key factors influencing welding quality and efficiency,and presents a detailed overview of numerical simulation and applications related to FRTPC resistance welding.The paper systemati-cally reviews recent research advances in FRTPC resistance welding,aiming to offer a comprehensive perspective for the further development of this technology.It also highlights outstanding scientific challenges and the need for standardized engineering practices to facilitate the large-scale implementation of FRTPC resistance welding.关键词
