Effect of glycerol content on thermal conversion behavior and aerosol heat transfer characteristics of heated tobacco products:experimental and numerical study

Abstract
To improve the thermal efficiency of heated tobacco products and optimize aerosol release behavior,this study investigated the effects of glycerol content(8%-18%)in reconstituted tobacco materials on the thermal decomposition behavior of the tobacco section and the internal heat transfer characteristics of the tobacco rod.Thermogravimetric analysis(TG),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),thermogravimetric-infrared spectroscopy(TG-IR),and micro combustion calorimetry(MCC)were employed to characterize the thermal properties of reconstituted tobacco sheets.A two-dimensional axisymmetric gas-solid coupled porous media heat transfer model was established to simulate the temperature field distribution at thermocouple monitoring points(T1-T4)within the tobacco rod under a 10-puff heating condition for samples with different glycerol contents.(1)Glycerol content significantly influenced the temperature distribution and heat conduction pathways during the pyrolysis stage inside the tobacco rod.When the glycerol content ranged from 12%to 16%,the continuity of aerosol heat transfer and the perceived temperature at the outlet were effectively enhanced.(2)The sample with 16%glycerol exhibited the optimal balance between pyrolysis efficiency and heat transfer uniformity.(3)Numerical simulation results showed strong agreement with experimental data,confirming the physical reliability of the proposed model.The combined experimental and numerical analysis clarified the role of glycerol content in regulating the thermal conversion behavior and aerosol heat transfer characteristics of heated tobacco products,providing theoretical support for material formulation optimization and thermal performance enhancement.关键词
