Wang Bing's Academic Thoughts:Xuanfu(Xuan Fu),Tianzhen(Innate Essence)and Fure(Stagnant Heat)

Abstract
Wang Bing's discussion of"Xuanfu"clarified its nature as governing the acupuncture points and Xuan Fu,focusing on the subtle structures of the muscle surface that move Qi,pointing out its function of"venting the Qi of the meridians and defensive system",and used it to analyze 11 disease conditions including facial acne and chronic alcoholic hyperhidrosis.Regarding"Tianzhen",he clarified that it constitutes the origin of the human body and the world,affirming that its essence is Qi,which is influenced by both physical form and spirit.Regarding"Fure",he clarified that it is a pathological state with a special interior-exterior relationship distinct from interior heat,and used it to analyze 16 specific disease conditions.Wang Bing also discussed the relationship among these three:depletion of innate essence leads to stagnant heat,with Xuan Fu serving as the structural basis for heat stagnation.He proposed treatment approaches such as"relieving the exterior"and"pricking to drain when severe".These understandings arose from inheriting and developing Inner Canon of Huangdi.In addition to the well-known Taoist influence,Buddhist and Zen thought also permeate and manifest in Wang Bing's ideas.关键词
