Exploring the Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitution Characteristics of the Elderly Based on the"Five Zang Organs Decline Theory"in Inner Canon of Huangdi

Abstract
The aging of the Chinese population has become a trend.According to the National Bureau of Statistics,by the end of 2023,the elderly aged 60 or above in China will account for 21.1%of the total population.The prevention and treatment of diseases in the elderly will be a key medical focus in the future.Inner Canon of Huangdi divides the entire life cycle into five stages:"birth,growth,strength,old age,and death".In the later stage of old age,the five organs of the human body gradually decline,the traditional Chinese medicine constitution is primarily characterized by deficiency,which can lead to excess and complications such as phlegm and blood stasis.The"constitution-disease correlation"theory suggests that adjusting the imbalanced constitution based on the physical characteristics of the elderly is crucial for preventing common diseases among them.The unique nature of the physical constitution in the elderly stage sets it apart from other stages.This article begins with the description of the"decline of the five Zang organs"in the elderly stage of the human body as outlined in Inner Canon of Huangdi,and combines it with the views of later medical scholars to explore the physical characteristics of the elderly.关键词
