Current status of resource conservation and utilization of Mawang duck

Abstract
The Mawang duck is a superior laying duck breed in China,originating from Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County in Chongqing.It is characterized by a small and compact body,high egg production,good meat and egg quality,and desirable slaughter performance.The Mawang duck also exhibits strong environmental adaptability and stress resistance.This paper provides an overview of the Mawang duck,covering aspects such as its origin,production area conditions,physical characteristics,and production performances.It elaborates on the current status of on-farm conservation,genetic materials preservation,breed resource evaluation,and development and utilization of the Mawang duck.The paper also points out existing issues in the conservation and utilization of Mawang duck,including relatively outdated conservation conditions,insufficient in-depth exploration of genetic traits,weak industrial development momentum,and limited brand influence.Furthermore,the paper proposes countermeasures and suggestions such as establishing standardized conservation and breeding bases,increasing efforts in genetic material collection,strengthening fundamental research on key traits while implementing targeted breeding and precise promotion,constructing a positive cycle system for the Mawang duck industry,and deeply exploring the core value of brand.These measures aim to provide theoretical references for the effective conservation and development and utilization of Mawang duck.关键词
