Discussion on the attributes of gut microbiota in traditional Chinese medicine
摘要
Abstract
This paper aims to investigate the integration of gut microbiota into traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)theory.It points out that although ancient TCM did not explicitly mention the term"gut microbiota",its impact on the human body is implicitly documented in numerous classical texts,making it an important bridge between modern medicine and TCM.Based on modern medical understanding of the physiological and pathological roles of gut microbiota,the study analyzes its nature from the perspective of TCM,particularly in terms of its Yin(阴)-Yang(阳)and five-elements attributes.The gut microbiota is recognized as a complex microbial ecosystem within the human body,closely related to health,and its imbalance has been implicated in various diseases.The dynamic balance among different microorganisms within the microbiota,as well as between the microbiota and the host,essentially embodies the TCM concept of Yin-Yang balance.Dysbiosis manifests as pathological states of Yin-Yang excess or deficiency.Furthermore combined with the Five Elements theory,the study posits that each organ has distinct characteristics based on the proportion of the five-elements energies.The gut microbiota exhibits attributes of all five-elements but is primarily associated with the earth element.Located in the middle energizer,it is most closely related to the spleen and stomach.The gut microbiota can thus be regarded as a new functionally independent organ system and integrated into the theory of visceral manifestation.By constructing a gut microbiota-organ system framework,this study analyzes its interactions with other organs through the generating-and-restraining relationships of the five-elements are analyzed.This theoretical construction and analysis not only may provide a new perspective for understanding the role of gut microbiota through the lens of TCM but also enrich and develop the connotations of the visceral manifestation theory.It lays a theoretical foundation for the clinical application of TCM in regulating gut microbiota to prevent and treat various diseases,demonstrating the dynamic vitality of TCM theory in the incorporation of modern scientific knowledge.关键词
