Numerical simulation of mesostructure of asphalt mixture based on interface element method

Abstract
The application of the interface element method(IEM)in the mesostructural simulation of asphalt mixtures is explored,with particular emphasis on its capability to simulate failure mechanisms,mechanical properties and parameter prediction of asphalt mixtures under different loading conditions.The basic theory of the IEM is first introduced,including displacement modes,stress modes and equilibrium equations.A two-dimensional elasticity problem is numerically implemented through programming to verify the effectiveness and mesh sensitivity of the method.The IEM is then employed to simulate the uniaxial compression test of asphalt mixtures,and a comparative analysis is conducted with the traditional finite element method(FEM).The results show that the IEM not only accurately captures the failure modes of asphalt mixtures under uniaxial compression,especially demonstrating significant advantages in shear slippage and interface cracking,but also enhances computational efficiency and significantly reduces the need for mesh refinement compared to the traditional FEM when simulating mesostructural mechanical behavior.The IEM has important application potential for simulating the mesostructural failure behavior and performance prediction of asphalt mixtures,offering a novel research approach for the numerical analysis of multiphase composite materials.关键词
