摘要

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of Ephedra-Cinnamon Twig decoction on anxiety-like behavior and brain pathological damage in rats with chronic cerebral ischemia.Methods SD rats were randomly assigned to five groups:sham-operated,model,Ephedra(E),Cinnamon Twig(C),and Ephedra-Cinnamon Twig(EC),with 11 rats per group.After one week of oral administration(6 g·kg-1),bilateral common carotid artery occlusion was performed.On postoperative day 3,elevated plus maze and Y maze tests were conducted,and neuronal counts in cerebral cortex and hippocampus was assessed.Results Compared with the model group,the C and EC decoctions significantly increased open-arm time and entries in the elevated plus maze(P<0.05);The E and EC groups significantly improved spontaneous alternation rate in the Y-maze(P<0.05);Neuronal survival counts increased significantly in the hippocampal CA1 and DG regions in the C and EC groups(P<0.05);and in the cerebral cortex across all treatment groups(P<0.01),but no in hippocampal CA2 and CA3 regions.Conclusion Both Cinnamon Twig and Ephedra-Cinnamon Twig decoctions alleviate anxiety-like behavior in ischemic rats.Ephedra and its combination improve spatial memory,demonstrating neuroprotective effects specifically in hippocampal CA1,DG and cerebral cortex regions.
